Officials from the Department of Health (DoH) in Abu Dhabi, led by the Chairman of the Department of Health, Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, and members of the management team are registered as organ donors in support of the “Hayat” national programme for organ donation and transplantation.

Registration took place during the International Conference on Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplant Initiatives, hosted by Abu Dhabi from 7-9 November, as part of the Abu Dhabi Community Movement.

Members of the team that donate organs after death include:

  • Dr Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Deputy Minister of Health
  • Dr Rashed Al Suwaidi, Executive Director, Healthcare Workforce Planning
  • Dr. Saleh Al-Ali, Executive Director, Emergency Preparedness and Response Center
  • Ali Al Khoori, Executive Director, Financial Sector
  • Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, Executive Director, Healthcare Payments Sector
  • Dr. HUDA Almuaini, Executive Director of Strategic Affairs Department
  • and Hind Al Zaabi, executive director of the medical facilities sector.

Officials have come forward to sign up for the “Hayat” program to encourage community members to do the same and donate their organs and tissues to help improve the quality of life for people with organ failure.

“Hayat” is designed to meet the highest international standards and practices in the United Arab Emirates and the region.

The Abu Dhabi community event has further focused on encouraging members of society to participate in donations and has so far achieved great success, demonstrating the emirate’s experience and capabilities in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

The program also aims to continue to raise awareness in the community about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to avoid the chance of developing a lifestyle-related disease leading to organ failure, thereby reducing the need for transplants.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle includes regular physical activity and a healthy diet to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and other health problems.

The program invites community members to understand the importance of organ donation and to register as a donor post-mortem on the official website.
