UAE executives take part in 550km cycling charity event

Executives and entrepreneurs are taking part in a 550km ride through seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates to raise money for special needs charities.

The Group 7 Emirates Cycling Challenge will see 20 cyclists head east across the border from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, then to Fujairah, north to Dallas Seahorse, and then ride south through Ajman , Umm al-Quwain and Sharjah return to Dubai on Sunday.

Funds raised from the three-day effort will be used for child welfare and education support programmes in partnership with Rashid Resolute People Centre and Dubai Cares.

The challenge was launched in December 2021 to celebrate the UAE’s Golden Jubilee and to raise awareness and support for the Rashid Centre, which educates children and young people with special needs.

The 20 cyclists who took part were executives and entrepreneurs from across the UAE, consisting of professional cyclists Sanchez Samuel, Vitor Carvalho (former member of the UAE National Olympic Cycling Committee), Janez Brajkovic (ranked 2nd in the 2012 Tour de France) ix) and Nelson Oliveira, a Portuguese professional.

Cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to track the progress of the challenge on its official website.

“The seventh UAE Cycling Challenge aims to encourage people to give back to their communities and stay healthy, while showcasing the country’s natural landscape,” First Group CEO Rob Burns said in a statement.

“We are grateful to The First Group for organising the second 7 Emirates Cycling Challenge, which has provided the UAE community with a platform to support our ECD programme and help provide underprivileged children with the care and attention they need at a young age, ” added Dr Tariq al-Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares.

Mariam Othman, chief executive of the Rashid Centre, said: “Through this cycle challenge, we are sending a positive message of inclusion and raising awareness of people of determination, and with our support, They have access to the best education and the opportunity to progress and succeed in life.” .
