One year after finishing eighth in the European Formula Open, Maloney moved to the 2021 Formula European Championship (FREC).After finishing fourth in the championship, Maloney was announced as one of three drivers to compete in 2021 Formula 3 playoff test. He represents Trident, who will go on to announce him as one of the drivers for 2022.

Last season in F3, Maloney teamed up with Roman Stanek and Johnny Edgar to create the trident. Although Stanek has the advantage in experience, Zane is the team’s star player. He won three feature races in a row and reached the season finale at Monza as one of seven drivers still in contention for the title.with other competitors Victor Martins and Ollie Bierman From his side, Maloney was under pressure.

A red flag raised by Kush Maini and Brad Benavides called for an early end to the race, and Maloney was declared the winner of the Feature Race. Martins, however, had built a small gap ahead of Monza, taking the Formula 3 title despite finishing fourth. Maloney finished second in the standings by just five points.

After 2022

Callan Williams has left Trident & F2 “to focus on the next step in his racing career”. With one round left in the Formula 2 championship in Abu Dhabi, Trident believes the experience Maloney will gain is the best fit for his future development and the team.
