New Zealand said on Monday it would send another 66 Defence Force personnel to Britain to help train Ukrainian soldiers as the Russian invasion is now in its ninth month.
New Zealand currently has a team of 120 New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) personnel training Ukrainians in the UK, but that deployment is coming to an end. The new deployments will run from November 30 until July 2023, a government statement said.

“I am delighted that the NZDF Infantry can provide the skills and experience for further training. This deployment also provides NZDF personnel with the opportunity to gain valuable experience,” said Defence Minister Peeni Henare.
The New Zealand government also said it would expand NZDF’s existing intelligence contribution, redeploying four NZDF staff to help logistics hubs in Europe, and providing eight to support those deployed in the region.
New Zealand Defence Force staff will not be sent to Ukraine, where Russia has been conducting so-called “special operations” since February.
The government said it would donate NZ$1.85 million (US$1.13 million) to the World Food Programme to help address global food security and NZ$1.85 million to the NATO Trust Fund.
