kelly bald exit as cbs After serving as entertainment president for decades, type Learned.
CBS Chief Executive George Cheeks announced his departure by the end of the year in an email to staff Wednesday and a note from Carr himself, both issued by type.
Cheeks said Kahl’s exit was “part of a reorganization and streamlining of leadership” at the broadcast network, but did not say who would take over Kahl’s responsibilities, other than to say information about the new structure would be “soon.”
“The amazing and incredible journey I started here 26 years ago has come to an end. I will be leaving CBS at the end of this year,” Carr wrote in the memo. “It is an absolute honor and privilege to work on CBS, America’s most-watched network. (I will never tire of hearing this.) I am living a TV fan’s dream, working with some of the most talented writers, producers, People and actors to work with. Most of all, I loved being in the trenches with all of you – the best execs and staff in show business. I want to thank everyone I have worked with for a tremendous effort , creativity and professionalism, all of which have helped this vast, groundbreaking network rank No. 1 for nearly 20 years. Team – I hope you are aware of the major shifts that are taking place today. As part of a leadership reshuffle and streamlining of CBS Entertainment, our esteemed colleague and division president, Kelly Kahl, will leave CBS at the end of the year.
Below is the note Kelly sent to his team this morning. We’ll have more information on the new leadership structure soon, but right now I really want to focus on Kelly and his incredible legacy with this network.
Kelly is unrivaled in broadcast television. He’s the architect of the primetime schedule, which has put CBS No. 1 in 19 of the past 20 seasons. A masterful and fearless dispatcher, he moved survivors and crime scene investigation to Thursdays, changing the face of the night after a decade of NBC dominance.
As President of Entertainment, he introduced hit shows such as Neighborhood, The Equalizer, NCIS: Hawaii, Three FBIs, Fire Nation and Ghosts, and has been a passionate steward of CBS’ hit reality TV franchises. More broadly, Kelly has been a strong advocate for the vitality of broadcast television and has been a steady and respected network leader through both good times and turbulent times.
There’s no doubt that Kelly has spent the past 26 years building and setting CBS up for even greater success. He was humble, gracious and generous with his peers every step of the way.
Personally, I would like to thank Kelly for being a valued colleague and advisor over the past two and a half years.
Please join me in sincerely thanking Kelly for all of his contributions to CBS and wishing him the best for the future.

I have been fortunate to have great friendships with many of you and will cherish the great adventures of the pre-show, press conferences, location shoots, Finals and Super Bowl. I hope and believe that these bonds will continue moving forward.
