Known for supporting healthy lifestyles and promoting the physical and mental health benefits of exercise, Johnson stressed the importance of attending what is expected to be an exciting regional event with international participation. Regardless of physical ability, the opportunity to exercise and enjoy a special moment among thousands of like-minded people should not be missed, he said.

“Running this year’s Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon,” Johnson said. “The beauty of it is that it’s a challenge to others as well as to yourself. So don’t miss your chance to play this special game from start to finish.

“I realize it’s hard to build an athletic lifestyle by exercising regularly every day, but training with people makes it easier and keeps team members motivated.”

Johnson attended the International Association for Physical Activity and Health Congress in Abu Dhabi last month. This is the first meeting of its kind in the region devoted to the physical and mental health, as well as the social well-being of residents of the UAE capital.

The legendary runner, who won gold medals at the Barcelona 92, Atlanta 96 and Sydney 2000 Games, was joined by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Ministry of Community Development, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and fitness app Step.

The organizing committee expects a record number of participants this year and recently unveiled its brand new 42.2km track, which begins at Adnoc headquarters and passes through several of the city’s famous landmarks.
