Isabel dos Santos has not yet been notified of an international arrest warrant allegedly issued by the global police agency Interpol, which represents The billionaire daughter of the ex-President of Angola said on Saturday that.

In a statement sent to Reuters, Dos Santos’ official source said her lawyers “have checked the Interpol database and so far, there has been no mention of issuing an arrest warrant”.

Interpol has issued an arrest warrant after Angolan prosecutors asked the agency to “locate, arrest” and extradite Dos Santos, Portugal’s Lusa news agency reported on Friday.

Interpol and prosecutors did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.

The 49-year-old businesswoman is wanted on charges of corruption, fraud, influence peddling and money laundering, Portugal’s Lusa said, citing an official document.

Dos Santos has faced corruption charges for years, including a 2020 allegation in Angola that she and her husband funneled $1 billion in state funds to companies in which they held stakes during her father’s presidency.

She has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Dos Santos’ sources said she had been aware of the legal proceedings brought against her in Portugal and Angola for almost three years, but she was never named as a defendant.

“During this nearly three-year period, whenever she was subpoenaed, she made a formal statement,” the source said.

According to Lusa’s report on Friday, the arrest warrant mentioned that dos Santos was frequently in Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Official sources said authorities knew of dos Santos’ location.

Dos Santos’ father, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who ruled Angola for nearly four decades until 2017, died in July.
