United Arab Emirates ambassador Abdulla Al Subousi has praised his country’s diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Israel in his first public address to a Jewish community group in Victoria.
“It’s been a real pleasure to be with you tonight,” the envoy enthused, speaking at the Zionist (ZV) annual conference in Victoria on Tuesday. He said growing trade ties between the UAE and Australia were affected by Inspired by trade relations between his country and Israel.

ZV chair Yossi Goldfarb addressed the threat posed to Jews and Israel by left- and right-wing extremists in his report to the AGM, calling the Melbourne University Students’ Union’s anti-Israeli resolution “shameful, militant and anti-Semitic”. He described ZV’s application to the Glen Eira committee to adopt the IHRA definition. He paid tribute to former ZV executive director Jean Katzen, welcomed her successor Zeddy Lawrence, and noted that ZV was “much more active in the press and on social media”. Goldfarb pledges ZV to correct “gender imbalance” on its board.
The ZV’s Community Volunteer Award was presented to Ian Samuel for over 40 years of service to the Australian Zionist community in a variety of roles. The community stalwart attributed his running the marathon to “my love for Israel.”
At this weekend’s state election, Australian Zionist Federation President Jeremy Leibler stressed, “We are very fortunate in this state … to have a community with a deep, unwavering commitment to our communities and to the State of Israel.” government and opposition.”
