Pato O’Ward will talk ‘in Zak Brown’s ear’ about another Formula 1 race: PlanetF1

[ad_1]

After attending his first official FP1 meeting in Abu Dhabi, Pato Owald said he would ask Zac Brown and Andreas Seidl when he could do it again in the future.

The IndyCar star was enthusiastic about his previous opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car, which he won in the 2021 Young Drivers Test at the same circuit after winning his maiden IndyCar title last year, which Brown cashed in. He has bargained to give him the chance to test in Formula 1 when he hits that milestone.

Nor has he closed the door on trying to make a future move to Formula One, with the 23-year-old also taking part in a private McLaren test in Barcelona earlier this year.

Earlier this season, he signed a multi-year contract extension with the Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team, but had the opportunity to test drive the current car in free practice, and he said he would ask the question when the next opportunity would arise. .

“I mean, you can definitely count on me being in Zack’s ear, and maybe Andreas being a little bit, like ‘hey, when can I get in the car again?'” he said in Abu Dhabi. Speaking to Formula1.com after FP1.

“But it’s hard to tell because once my season is over in IndyCar, it’s going to come together because it’s so compressed. [schedule] You know, from the end of May or April to September, it’s non-stop.

“So yeah, I don’t know what to tell you. It would be great to get some grinding before the IndyCar season, but I think it’s all up to the big bosses.”

Alwald keen to drive ‘rocket ship on wheels’, McLaren’s pre-2021 carbut despite major regulatory changes in time for 2022, he said he wasn’t driving two completely different cars as differently as he expected.

“It was really good, our running program was cut a little bit short because of the problems we had at the beginning, but it was fun,” he said.

“I’m really surprised how little has changed compared to last year’s car. I know the changes are important, but I would like to feel more of a difference.

“Honestly, the cars still feel so fast compared to anything else in the world. So I’m very grateful for the opportunity.

“It’s great to help the team as much as I can with things like qualifying and FP2 and hopefully I can do more of that in the future. That’s fantastic.
