A mother in Abu Dhabi has filed a lawsuit against a private school to collect tuition fees despite problems with education authorities preventing the school from reopening next school year.

Since the school was never opened to students, the woman is seeking reimbursement from the school for the Dh15,698 tuition fees she paid for her son for the 2021-2022 school year, official court documents said.

She also claims a legal interest of 12% from the date the judgment is issued until payment is made.

The woman said that the school did not open for the 2021/2022 school year due to some problems with the competent education authorities.

But it continues to charge parents tuition without providing them with alternative schools.

The school management also did not refund tuition fees, the mother said. She said she had to transfer her son to another school, where she paid another tuition fee.

She also attached documents and tuition receipts from another school her son attended to support her claim.

After investigating the case, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court dismissed the case, stressing that it was outside its jurisdiction.

The judge ordered the case to be transferred to the Abu Dhabi Commercial Court.
