Video: UAE launches National Nutrition Strategy 2022-2030

Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched the National Nutrition Strategy 2022-2030 to build sustainable nutrition systems, provide safe and supportive nutritional environments for people of all ages, and strengthen food governance.

The strategy was launched at an event organized by the Ministry at the Etihad Museum. The meeting was attended by Salem Al Darmaki, Adviser to the Minister of Health and Prevention, and Nouf Khamis Al Ali, Director, Health Promotion Department, MoHAP.

Also participating were representatives from 22 government and private entities, including strategic partners from various sectors such as health, education, municipalities, trade, industry, agriculture, economics and the food industry.

The strategy has five goals: develop sustainable and flexible food systems for healthy diets, provide comprehensive coverage of sanitation systems and essential nutrition measures, provide social protection and nutrition education, and provide safe and supportive nutrition for people of all ages environment, and following an advanced food strategy.

Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, emphasized that the strategy sets out a comprehensive roadmap for the development of a healthy food system based on sustainable practices and a participatory approach involving a wide range of strategic partners. “We look forward to achieving healthy nutrition goals for all sectors of society through this program, while providing first-class quality healthcare services,” he said.

Al Owais added that the ministry’s collaboration with numerous stakeholders to put the strategy into practice will contribute to the long-term goal of building a sustainable health system and improving the nutritional status of society, ensuring the health and well-being of individuals and families , to enhance the sustainable development of our entire society.

“MoHAP is committed to implementing the strategy in partnership with other stakeholders, using clear lines of coordination, and basing all policies on the concept of ‘One Health’. We will do everything we can to reduce the prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases rates and improve results on national health indicators. Driven by the National Wellbeing Strategy and the ‘We UAE 2031’ strategy, the strategy will help improve data against specific criteria for monitoring progress and evaluating outcomes.”

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, emphasized that the strategy aims to complement other strategies launched by the UAE to improve nutrition, including the National Food Security Strategy 2051, National Well-being Strategy 2031, Non-Communicable Diseases 2025 Global Goals, Global Nutrition Targets 2025 and Sustainable Development Goals 2030, as well as the UAE’s National Framework to Combat Obesity and National Guidelines for Preconception Care.

“The implementation of this strategy will certainly contribute to the health and well-being of the people of the UAE and future generations of all ages,” Al Rand said.

The strategy and its action plan provide a framework for national efforts and will build on the progress made under the previous 2017-2021 strategy. The Assistant Undersecretary said that the new strategy will not only improve the nutritional status of the UAE, but will also help create a supportive healthy food environment and promote healthy food choices based on tried and tested solutions.

Al Darmaki emphasized that the overall goal is to provide universal healthy and sustainable diets and to develop effective nutritional actions to improve nutrition in all age groups, including mothers, infants, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Al Ali noted that the newly launched strategy will also help create healthier school environments and coordinate efforts to encourage healthy eating habits, thereby supporting federal strategies aimed at reducing childhood obesity and enhancing maternal and child health, as well as national guidelines for preconception care . .

WHO praises UAE strategy

Dr. Ayoub Al Jawaldeh, Regional Advisor on Nutrition at the World Health Organization (WHO), praised the ministry’s strategy, which, according to him, will improve the nutritional status of the UAE population.

“Launching this strategy reflects the commitment of the UAE health authorities and stakeholders to address nutrition challenges and achieve the World Health Assembly’s goals to reduce nutrition and non-communicable diseases, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. WHO appreciates MoHAP’s efforts to improve There is a high level of commitment to implementing the National Action Plan through health and food systems,” he said.
