World News | WHO South-East Asia Region launches Regional Forum on Health Systems for Primary Health Care

Bangkok [Thailand]29 November (ANI): The WHO South-East Asia Region and partners launched the South-East Asia Regional Forum on Health Systems for Primary Health Care on Tuesday.

A strong health system oriented towards primary health care (PHC) is the “most equitable and efficient way” to achieve universal health coverage and health security, a WHO statement said.

In a press release, WHO emphasized the importance of introducing PHC-oriented health systems during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic challenges. WHO calls on Member States to develop policies and intensify efforts to achieve quality, accessible and affordable primary health care for universal health coverage, health security and health for all.

Addressing participants at the launch of the PHC Forum, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, said: “During the ongoing COVID-19 response and recovery, the demands on health systems across our region have increased, and these demands This must be achieved within severe resource constraints, even as we advocate for countries to not only maintain but even increase health spending.”

In a press release, WHO noted that the WHO South-East Asia Region launched a new strategy for primary health care in December 2021. The strategy includes 12 interdependent strategic actions designed to guide, support and monitor primary health care transformation in the region.

In a press release, WHO said the regional primary health care forums will call for action by countries to promote implementation-focused knowledge and experience, and strengthen collaboration among development, implementation and research partners to achieve Member State priorities, And jointly advocate for enhanced PHC investment in the region.
