Yas Island Launches Ticketless Parking – Here’s How It Works
If you’ve ever circled a car park hunting for a ticket machine that’s out of paper, or dug through your glovebox for loose coins, Yas Island just made your life a little easier. As of this month, three of its most popular destinations — Yas Marina, Yas Bay Waterfront, and West Yas Plaza — have gone completely ticketless.
Here’s how it works: cameras positioned at entry and exit points automatically read your vehicle’s number plate and match it against your Salik account. There’s no ticket to grab on the way in and no barrier to fumble with on the way out. You simply drive in, park wherever you like, spend your time as planned, and drive out. The system quietly tracks everything in the background and applies charges — or free periods — accordingly.
And the free periods are actually pretty generous. Head to the gym for a workout, and once your visit is validated, you get up to six hours of free parking. Spending a lazy day at the beach along Yas Bay Waterfront comes with the same six-hour allowance. Grabbing lunch or dinner at one of the area’s restaurants? Ask them to validate your ticket and you’ll get up to three hours free. Even if you’re just running a quick errand at West Yas Plaza, the first hour won’t cost you anything — after that, it’s a flat AED 10 per hour.
This kind of system isn’t entirely new to the UAE, but rolling it out across three major leisure and lifestyle destinations at once is a meaningful upgrade for how residents and tourists experience Yas Island day to day. It cuts down on the small frictions that add up over a busy weekend — no more searching for change, no more worrying about a lost ticket, and no more standing at a machine while your ice cream melts in the car.
For anyone who visits Yas Island regularly, whether for the beach, dinner, or a workout, this is one of those quiet quality-of-life changes that makes a noticeably bigger difference than it sounds like on paper.
