Emirates News Agency – Abu Dhabi Arabic Center organizes ‘Kalima for Children’ event

ABU DHABI, 30th November, 2022 (WAM) — Project Kalima, an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, ALC, under the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, DCT Abu Dhabi, organized the A meeting of cultural activities entitled “Kalima for Children”.

Held at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation’s Children’s Library, the event aimed to inspire children’s imaginations and help them develop active and lasting reading habits.

The agenda included a storytelling session with two titles translated from German: “Sola the Calf” and “My Mother, the Superhero.”

Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Acting Executive Director of ALC, said: “The Kalima for Children campaign reflects our commitment at ALC to develop a well-read, educated and knowledgeable young generation. We aim to develop children’s skills in innovative ways that help They connect books while encouraging them to read and empowering them to make a positive contribution to the progress of the nation.

“The campaign also reflects the Kalima Project’s commitment to enriching the content of Arabic literature. This provides a platform to make Arabic a symbol of national identity as well as a language of creativity and culture, and creates opportunities for Arab children to gain exposure to major international publications to help them grow into a generation adapted to interacting with world cultures while retaining their own identities and cultures.”

Project Kalima is an ambitious initiative of the ALC, launched in 2007 by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to reinvigorate the translation movement in the Arab world and support Than the cultural activities carried out.

The project aims to elevate the emirate’s role on the regional and international cultural scene, laying the groundwork for a broad Arab scientific and cultural renaissance built around books. It also helps in organizing various events and activities related to translation.
