[ad_1]

Former NBA star Jeremy Lin, who played for a Chinese team, was fined 10,000 yuan ($1,400) for making “inappropriate remarks” about quarantine facilities on social media before games, the Chinese Professional League announced. It comes as Beijing is trying to stem protests against some of the world’s strictest anti-virus controls.

More Chinese cities have eased restrictions, allowing malls, supermarkets and other businesses to reopen following weekend protests in Shanghai and elsewhere.

Urumqi, where the deadly fire sparked the protests, announced that supermarkets and other businesses would reopen. Jeremy Lin, who plays for the Dragon and Lions Basketball Club, “made inappropriate remarks on quarantine hotel-related facilities.” The Chinese Basketball Association issued an announcement stating that “has caused adverse effects on the league and the competition area.”

Shanghai news outlet The Paper reported that Jeremy Lin posted a video ahead of next week’s game complaining about hotel fitness facilities in Zhuji, a city south of Shanghai in Zhejiang province.

“Can you believe this is the weight room?” Jeremy Lin was quoted as saying. “What kind of rubbish is this?” The Paper said that the video was deleted after “finding out the situation” and that the hotel only stayed briefly as required.

Jeremy Lin, born in California to parents from Taiwan, was the first Chinese or Taiwanese American to play in the NBA.
