Meanwhile, on Sunday, the G20 coordinators’ meeting kicked off with a panel discussion on accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Formal Sherpa discussions will be held in five sessions and will be held on December 5-6.

During a panel discussion at the G20 Sherpa meeting in Udaipur, Amitabh Kant said that India sees every crisis as an opportunity.

“Europe faces geopolitical crises, supply chain disruptions, climate action crises, poverty, inflation and slowing global growth. Amid such crises, India holds the G20 presidency, and we believe that every crisis is an opportunity,” Kant Speaking at the G20’s first side event, “Changing Lives: Accelerating Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals – Panel Discussion”.

He further said that India is not only holding the G20 chair but also pushing its own agenda when inflation is soaring and global growth is slowing.

“So far, we’ve got agendas from developed countries, and this is the first time we’ve got our own agenda, and we’ll say we’re the mother of democracy,” Kant said.

In an informal media interaction, Kant further emphasized how India could play an important role in Bali as a balancing act in the communiqué and to focus on economic issues rather than geopolitics.

“In Bali, India played a very important balancing role in our communiqué which focused on economic issues rather than geopolitics. Everyone accepted this, including Russia and China. The Prime Minister’s statement ‘today’s time is not war’ was also part of the communiqué,” he said.

Kant said it was a great honor for India to take over the G20 presidency at a time of crisis.

“India took over the G20 presidency at a time of crisis. But we believe that every crisis is a great opportunity, and leadership is, in fact, about finding breakthrough solutions in crisis. So we strongly believe that we should really accelerate the implementation of Sustaining the pace of development goals. That’s why today’s discussion started…I think that responsibility is a great honor,” he added.

The G20 is the most important organization, like the United Nations, where reaching consensus can be challenging. It was institutionalized in 2008 after beginning in 1999. (ANI)
