Etihad to deploy four A380s on Abu Dhabi-London route from 2023

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways announced on Dec. 9 that it will reintroduce four A380s from next year.

The airline expects to return four of its double-decker planes to its fleet in summer 2023, with plans to fly them to London Heathrow.

In a statement, Etihad Airways said this would free up capacity for frequency increases on existing routes and the introduction of new destinations. The return of the A380 will be supported by five A320 aircraft.

Chairman Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa said: “The reintroduction of the A380 further enhances Etihad Airways’ ability to enter the key UK market, with knock-on effects for the wider GCC and Indian subcontinent, which will bring the city of Abu Dhabi to the next level. Spread across a single aisle, the first nine apartments offer private living spaces complete with a large leather lounge chair and an ottoman that unfolds into a fully flat bed. It also offers an LCD TV monitor and a personal vanity.

Accessible to First and Business Class guests, the lobby is a serviced lounge and bar area between the two cabins, with leather sofas, refreshments and a large TV with USB connections.

Etihad is currently preparing the plane to fly again, including recruiting and training the A380 team, which includes pilots, cabin crew and ground handling technicians.
