A KT reader asked if their parents could live with them in their rented apartment
question: I wish to bring my parents to the UAE but do not have the required salary for this. Can you explain how I can bring them a “retirement visa”? If they qualify, can they live with me in the apartment I rent?
Reply: In the UAE, retirement visas are issued to retired residents aged 55 and over and are valid for five years. The eligibility criteria for individuals to obtain a retirement visa is that they must have worked in or outside the UAE for not less than 15 years, or be at least 55 years old at the time of retirement; and/or own property worth not less than AED 1 million; and/or have not Savings of less than AED 1 million or monthly income of AED 20,000 (AED 15,000 in Dubai) with bank statements for the past six months.
After expiry, the ‘retirement visa’ may be renewed if the visa holder continues to meet the applicable eligibility criteria.
Therefore, if your parents meet the above eligibility criteria, you can submit the necessary application to the competent authorities in the emirate in which you reside.
Regarding your second question, your parents may live in your rented apartment.
