Course Rating is designed to assign a numerical value to indicate the difficulty of a course for scratch golfers and bogey golfers. This number is calculated by measuring fairways, checking bunkers, measuring the size and contour of greens, determining distances to hazards and out-of-bounds locations, and many more golf course characteristics. After the hazards are graded and the golf course is graded, the slope and index are downloaded in the World Course Rating System.
Last week at the Ayres Club in Dubai, the R&A and USGA were from the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Bahrain, and Mauritius.
Representing the Emirates Golf Federation and participating in the course rating seminars were the Operations and Marketing Managers, Robert FialaThe newly appointed EGF Operations Assistant, Christina Petrovicand thomas hallAssistant Golf Services Manager, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
“It’s important for us to continue to advance professional development in the region,” he said Robert Fiala. “This seminar is a great way to bring the region’s golf industry together while having the opportunity to learn new skills. Due to the pandemic, many golf courses in the UAE and across the region are [provisional ratings]. EGF will work with these golf courses to ensure they are properly rated and included in the World Course Rating System. I feel like we put together a team focused on accuracy and consistency to get the job done. “
EGF will continue to work with the R&A and USGA to provide golf professionals in the region with opportunities to further their industry careers.
