Mammoet’s new technology enables real-time carbon monitoring

Mammoet, a global market leader in heavy lifting and transport, has developed a new technology platform that enables real-time reporting of emissions data from heavy lifting equipment.

The system enables customers to accurately predict and monitor the carbon emissions generated by large-scale heavy lifting and transportation projects.

Project planners looking to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations need to rely on estimates of total emissions derived from the make and model of equipment involved and how long they have been in use.

Mammoet’s new technology improves reporting accuracy by using data captured directly from the field device’s embedded electronics.

Code-named DAISY, the system transmits this data via the mobile network from local devices connected to the embedded system of the combined crane and SPMT. It can then be accessed from anywhere in the world, providing a clear audit trail for governments and other authorities.

This enables organizations working in locations where emissions are strictly regulated, such as city centers, tunnels and indoor facilities, to minimize emissions at project sites. Analysis of this data will uncover new ways to reduce emissions-driven activities, for example by reducing idle time during projects.

The system is currently in use in the Netherlands to monitor the carbon emissions of a fleet of mobile cranes. It is planned to launch in Mammoet project in 2023 according to customer demand.

Jacques Stoof, Director of Innovation at Mammoet, commented: “DAISY will be a state-of-the-art system that can accurately report CO2, NOx and NH3 emissions at the equipment level at an operation site, improving on the common methodologies currently used by the industry.”

This development is another aspect of Mammoet’s commitment to enabling the energy transition, providing our clients with the tools and insights they need to meet key climate goals for 2030 and 2050.

The launch of DAISY follows Mammoet’s recently announced partnership agreement with energy company Vattenfall to develop new wind farm cranes powered by renewable energy and completed the world’s first heavy haul project using an all-electric drive SPMT combination. — trade arab news agency
