Kyiv [Ukraine]Dec. 17 (ANI): In a new wave of attacks, Russia fired dozens of missiles and drones at Ukraine’s energy system, leaving millions of civilians in an electrical emergency, the New York Times reported. The winter night was plunged into darkness. .

Vitalii Maletsky, the mayor of the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, told The New York Times that more than 200,000 customers were without heat as temperatures hovered around 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius).

He implored people to “close all windows and take all possible measures to keep warm”.

In Kyiv, even after hours of repairs, about two-thirds of residents are without heat and water, and about 60 percent are without electricity, according to Klitschko.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been left without power, heat and water after a new wave of Russian missiles hit the country. According to media reports, the mayor said the loss was “huge”.

The Russian attack came as Ukrainian military and political leaders warned of a possible renewed Russian attempt to take Kyiv and prepare for a new ground offensive this winter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has insisted that Russia is not serious about peace and that any pause in the war would only help Russia strengthen its grip on occupied territories and rebuild its military for a new offensive.

“Look at our lives. We are fed up! We need to fight back against Russia. Give us weapons. We have enough soldiers, give us weapons,” Gennady Omelyan, a taxi driver in Kyiv, said in response to recent attacks on Ukraine, according to The New York Times reports.

Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klichko wrote on his Telegram channel on Wednesday that explosions were heard recently in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, TASS news agency reported.

“An explosion occurred in the Shevchenkovsky district of the capital,” the mayor wrote.

An air raid siren was declared in the Ukrainian capital at 5:55 a.m. (6:55 a.m. Moscow time), TASS news agency reported. Sirens were also sounded in the Kyiv, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions.

Shevchenkivskyi district is located in the center of Kyiv. There are 71 enterprises in the industrial park in the whole district. (Arnie)
