Lamia Tariq Malallah made the UAE proud once again by adding a feather to her cap after winning the inaugural Singapore International Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships that concluded on Sunday.

With more than 200 participants from 15 countries, mostly from Asia, a tournament of this magnitude was held in Singapore for the first time and was a complete success.

Lamia, the UAE’s only official national gymnast, entered the strong Asian championships immediately following her victory in the GCC Grand Series in November this year.

Lamia continues to make her mark in gymnastics, leaving her favored Singaporean and Thai competitors in the dust with dazzling performances.

In rhythmic gymnastics, four different scores are given based on difficulty, artistry, execution, and deduction. Adding all four scores gives each gymnast in the competition a final score according to International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) standards.

Flying the Arabian flag in the Asian country, Lamia competed in Class A in 2011 where she scored higher than her competitors in the difficulty category of basketball equipment with a score of 6.700.

The UAE prodigy, the youngest Emirati gymnast to win the prestigious Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award in 2019, topped the list with a total of 20.867 points.

A dip in her club equipment routine resulted in a lower execution score of 5.250 for an overall score of 18.300 and a bronze medal, but thanks to her hoops, her overall score earned her first place and a place in the final The UAE won the gold medal in the all-around competition with a score of 39.167.

Lamia proudly announced from Singapore that she wants to fly the UAE flag in as many countries as possible so that people notice who is an Emirati.

Most recently, Lamia took first place in the hoop category at the 2022 Dubai GCC Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships at Al Nasr Club in November.

The championships are organized by the Dubai Rhythmic Gymnastics Youth Olympic School in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).

This is the second international competition for UAE gymnasts since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

In early July, Lamia won the gold medal at the Besiktas JK Cup gymnastics competition in Istanbul, Turkey.

The 11-year-old was nominated by the General Directorate of Sports and the UAE National Olympic Committee to represent the country in international competitions, ranking among the top Category A gymnasts born between 2010 and 2011.

Lamia won her first gold medal at the inaugural Dubai International Junior Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 2017 when she was 6 years old. Dakar, Senegal, 2026.

She also won top honors at the 2019 International Rhythmic Gymnastics Youth Cup held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Lamia also won gold medals at the 2017 Open GR Azur International in Nice, France, and the 2018 Armonia Cup in Thessaloniki, Greece.

She then won a silver medal at the 2017 Winter Cup in Leverkusen, Germany and a bronze medal at the prestigious Novokorsk Winter Cup in Moscow at the end of 2018.
