According to the Khaleej Times, the UAE has launched a biometric service at Abu Dhabi airport, no longer needing a passport or ticket, and the passenger’s face will become his boarding pass.

This means passengers can use their faces to obtain boarding passes at the airport.

The facial recognition service will be implemented at selected self-service baggage touchpoints, electronic immigration lanes and boarding gates, and then applied to all passenger touchpoints at the airport.

This advanced AI technology was designed by Abu Dhabi-based technology company NEXT50.The company will launch its cutting-edge AI solution at Abu Dhabi Airport, UAE, with global AI and technology solutions partners IDEMIA and SITA

This new technology will enhance the passenger journey and make the Midfield Terminal the first international airport to feature biometrics at all customer touchpoints.

Ibrahim Al Mannaee, CEO of NEXT50, emphasized that the biometrics project is part of the UAE’s vision for digital transformation.

“Once the project is fully realized, the airport will be the only airport in the region to implement biometric solutions across all customer touchpoints, contributing to Abu Dhabi Airports’ vision to become the world’s most technology-driven airport operator, Providing a seamless journey for all passengers. We are proud to join forces with IDEMIA and SITA and provide our expertise in artificial intelligence and data science to make this initiative a reality,” said Al Mannaee.

The system will provide passengers with a convenient, streamlined, contactless and hygienic experience from ‘curbside to gate’. According to the Khaleej Times, this will reduce waiting time and queuing times for passengers.

Eng Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “The first phase of the deployment of advanced biometric technology at Abu Dhabi International Airport further strengthens the The airport experience promises future excellence and service excellence. When the project is finalized, Abu Dhabi will be the first airport in the world to include every touchpoint in the biometric journey, providing seamless, secure and Guaranteed passenger experience.”

The system will use high-tech biometric cameras to verify passenger details at multiple touchpoints at the airport, including self-service bag drop, passport control, business class lounges and boarding gates, reports the Khaleej Times.
