ABU DHABI, 21st December, 2022 (WAM) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation hosted the first UAE-Brunei Darussalam Joint Council meeting in Abu Dhabi. The committee is co-chaired by Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh;
The meetings of the Joint Committee cover a series of sectors and fields of common interest such as trade, investment, maritime cooperation, agriculture, aquaculture, energy, land transportation logistics, tourism and hotel industry, and multilateral cooperation with ASEAN.
Discussions also touched on climate change priorities and highlighted the UAE’s leading role as host of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.
Ahmed Sayegh hailed the joint committee’s role in strengthening cooperation between the two countries and unlocking the potential of trade and investment cooperation envisioned by the two governments.
His Excellency Dato Erywan Yusof, for his part, highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation with the UAE, and commended the UAE’s efforts to coordinate the climate agenda under COP28.
Participants on the UAE side included Saeed Mubarak Alhajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, and Khalid Ghanim Al Ghaith, UAE Ambassador to Malaysia and non-resident ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
Brunei Darussalam’s side also included Haji Harun bin Haji Junid, Brunei Darussalam’s ambassador to the UAE.
