Thomas’ laboratory at NYU AD is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to work on interdisciplinary aspects of solid-state NMR and electron microscopy to answer challenging questions related to materials chemistry. The postdoc will work on developing a new method to derive molecular structures with heterogeneity. Candidates will be involved in the solid-state synthesis of a wide variety of materials with applications in energy-related fields and will work closely with the NMR and electron microscopy experts in the group to bring new chemistry to the table. The ideal candidate is someone with extensive experience in materials synthesis (catalysts, coordination polymers or inorganic oxides) and knowledge in electron microscopy who wishes to learn the expanding technique of solid-state NMR. The project focuses on developing an extended NMR crystallographic method for materials whose properties deviate from ideal properties due to positional or translational barriers. Candidates have ample opportunity to study state-of-the-art dynamic nuclear polarization solid-state NMR.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, with practical solid-state NMR experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential. Good computer programming skills and working knowledge of MATLAB are a plus.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to use the cutting-edge resources of NYU AD’s core technology platform in a collaborative research environment. The NMR Center at NYU Abu Dhabi has an active NMR research community and is equipped with a 600 MHz (spin frequency range from 10 kHz to 100 kHz) DNP SSNMR and a 500 MHz solution NMR spectrometer. In addition, postdocs will have access to NYU’s well-equipped core research facilities.
Employment conditions are very competitive, including housing and education subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, degree transcript, one-page summary of research and interests, and at least two letters of recommendation, all in PDF format. If you have any questions or would like more details, please email: bt2354@nyu.edu.
