Kathmandu [Nepal]December 25 (ANI): Leaders of the four parties in Nepal’s caretaker government are holding discussions to reach an agreement, as the deadline to form a new government ends today.
Notably, discussions are underway at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar to break the deadlock and reach an agreement on who will lead the government first.

Nepal’s caretaker prime minister Sherbahadur Deupa was holding talks with Maoist Center chairman Prachanda ahead of the coalition meeting, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said.
Multiple rounds of meetings since Friday have failed to bring the leaders to a deal.

The Maoist leader held discussions with his party leaders at his residence in Khumaltar before arriving in Baluwatar. Meanwhile, Deuba held multiple rounds of discussions with senior party members before sitting down for a meeting with Prachanda.
Both leaders are vying for the prime ministership. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Congress leadership is under pressure not to leave the prime ministership to the Maoists.
A leader who attended the meeting said there was no consensus on government formation as the main parties – the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Maoist Center – remained steadfast in their positions on the prime ministership.
“We will take a decision today,” National Council leader Gyanendra Karki said, adding that “coalition partners will form the government.”
Maoist chairman Prachanda has insisted that he should lead the government, while the Nepalese parliament has insisted on its status as the largest party to lead the government.
Political drama is unfolding in Kathmandu as President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s seven-day deadline to nominate a prime minister ends today at 5pm (local time).
President Bhandari has asked the parties to agree on an unanimous candidate for Prime Minister under Article 76(2) of the Constitution.
