The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday denied reports that it was not granting visas to Pakistani citizens belonging to certain cities, calling it fake news, Geo News reported.

Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, the UAE Consulate General in Karachi, said the UAE government has not imposed any such ban.

“There are reports that the Gulf state does not allow visas for citizens of some Pakistani cities including Abbottabad, Atok, Bajaur Institution, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Hunza, Quetta, Kasur, Kohat, Kotli, Khushab, Khurrum Agency, Larkana, Mohmand Agency, Muzaffargarh, Nawabshah, Parachinar, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Skardu and Sukkur,” According to Geo News.

Those belonging to the above cities are warned not to apply for visas. “Your visa will be refused and the fee will not be refunded,” the report said.

While expressing regret over the reports, Remeithi said that Pakistani citizens are getting visas that they can apply to visit the UAE.

“He said that, in addition to the consulates in Islamabad and Lahore, he also personally issued visas from the consulate in Karachi to citizens born or residing in these cities,” Geo News reported.

According to Remeithi, such rumors circulated from time to time.

A proposal to ban Russia’s Schengen visas was brought up for discussion in the EU recently, and Berlin took note, said the official German cabinet spokesman, Steffen Herberstreter.

“It was proposed by certain countries of the EU, so it is on the agenda. The German government should now discuss it among cabinet members and within the EU. “I ask for your patience,” the spokesman said, adding that “the German government takes note of such proposals at EU level.”

The United States also recently imposed visa restrictions on 28 Cuban officials, including Cuban government employees and senior members of the Cuban Communist Party, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.

The 28 officials include those suspected of suppressing the July 11, 2021 protests. These include senior members of the Cuban Communist Party, responsible for formulating national and provincial policy.
