UAE: ‘State-of-the-art’ equipment treats woman at risk of narrowing arteries

[ad_1]

GENTUITY can scan more than 100mm of coronary arteries in less than a second, providing a 33% increase in coverage compared to currently available devices. Meanwhile, the catheter thickness using the new device is equivalent to 0.60 mm (Fr1.8).

The new device relies on a scanning mechanism to assess cholesterol, calcium and tissue in the coronary arteries and to read how susceptible that tissue is to future heart attacks.

This device was used to perform urinary catheterization on a 50-year-old woman. The patient was admitted with angina pectoris, and after necessary examinations, atherosclerosis was found. This required immediate intervention using a catheter and the GENTUITY device, which covers coronary arteries between 1.3 mm and 6 mm in diameter, to remove coronary atherosclerosis.

Dr Arif Al Nooryani, chief executive of Al Qassimi Hospital, said the equipment used was so accurate it was able to scan tiny coronary capillaries and detect atherosclerosis within them. He added that he was proud of the achievement, which adds to the hospital’s track record, and thanked EHS for its continued support.

Dr Al Nooryani added that the importance of the device lies in its ability to detect sclerosis early in the most vulnerable coronary capillaries, as well as its speed compared to previous generation products currently in use, which speeds up surgical intervention and facilitates fine performance Catheterization and removal of sclerosis in patients.
