In true Dubai fashion, the New Year celebrations at the Burj Khalifa paid tribute to all aspects of the UAE and its heroic fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was a mesmerizing display of pyrotechnics, lasers and displays that got 2023 off to a colorful start.

Some guests arrived at The Dubai Mall as early as 10am to avoid the rush. British tourist couple Sabia Begum and Mohammed Miah said they were advised to arrive early by hotel staff. “When we arrived at 10am, the crews were preparing all the barricades,” Mohammad said. “They asked us to book, but we didn’t know we had to.”

The couple then shopped around at several restaurants to secure a seat. “I was a little bit shocked by the price,” Sabia admitted. However, her husband came to Dubai to see the fireworks and he was willing to pay for it. “I probably won’t come back for New Year’s Eve,” Mohamed said. “So, I decided to go for it.”

The Burj Khalifa’s New Year’s performance is a long-awaited spectacle around the world that required months of planning and a team from all over the world. It involves more than 150,000 kilograms of fireworks, more than 10,000 firing orders, 1,235 firing directions, and more than 250 lamps.
