ABU DHABI, 3rd January, 2023 (WAM) — The seventh annual Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum will convene in Abu Dhabi on 14th-15th January to set the global energy agenda for the coming year, and to study ongoing Long-term effects of changes in energy systems.

This year’s forum will be particularly important as key climate and energy strategy issues take center stage in the run-up to the United Nations Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP28), which the UAE will also host at the end of the year.

John Kerry, the US President’s climate envoy and former US Secretary of State, will grab the headlines.

The 2023 Forum will focus on the challenges of managing energy security priorities and decarbonization efforts as the Ukraine crisis continues to impact the energy transition. The forum will once again be part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a global event supporting climate action and collaboration on net zero commitments.

The forum is organized in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Mubadala Investment Company, TAQA and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), with CNBC as an international media partner.

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, “As host of COP28, we are honored to welcome participants of the Global Energy Forum to the UAE to discuss the ongoing energy transition. Sustainable Development Goals and addressing the devastating impacts of climate change. This year’s forum offers a unique opportunity to not only discuss the energy agenda for the coming year, but also to start a dialogue on the current UN Climate Change Conference. We look forward to your participation in Abu Dhabi 2023 Global Energy Forum.”

“The twin challenges of energy security and climate change have elevated energy transition to the top of global leaders’ list of urgent priorities,” said Atlantic Council President and CEO Frederick Kempe. “The 2023 Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum will once again provide a vital platform for policymakers to address these challenges. It is a forum that brings together leaders from around the world to shape the 2023 energy agenda and has succeeded at past meetings. An opportunity to build on the foundation.”

From the lingering fallout from the conflict in Ukraine to efforts to avert a global financial crisis, now is the most important time for an open and frank dialogue to determine the best path to a net-zero emissions future.

Building on the momentum from the 2022 Forum, the 2023 Forum will return to a hybrid format. It will feature a global reach of face-to-face networking, panels, workshops and receptions as well as virtual programming in Abu Dhabi.
