Moscow [Russia]4 January (ANI): Former Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation Socialist Republic (RSFSR) Ruslan Hasbulatov has died at the age of 80, TASS cites a member of the State Duma from Chechnya Shamser Salaliyev reports.

“Ruslan Khasbulatov died at his country dacha near Moscow,” Saraliyev said. Meanwhile, relatives of Khasbulatov said his funeral will take place in January. 5 in Grozny.

Ruslan Hasbulatov was born on November 22, 1942 in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen-Ingushetia Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now the Russian Chechen Republic).

In the late 1980s, Hasbulatov began working closely with then-President Boris Yeltsin. He was elected to the Congress of People’s Deputies of the Russian SFSR in 1990.

Khasbulatov was elected chairman of the parliament in October 1991 and kept the job after the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of the year, Reuters reported.
