Counselor Chollet visits United Arab Emirates, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia

Counselor to the Ministry, Derek Chollet, will travel to the United Arab Emirates, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia from 8 to 13 January.

Counselor Chollet will first travel to the United Arab Emirates as part of an inter-agency mission from 8-10 January to attend the first meeting of the Negev Forum Working Group, where he will co-chair the Regional Security Working Group and Representatives from the governments of Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. Discussions will focus on advancing initiatives to encourage regional integration and cooperation.

During these multilateral meetings, he will engage with key Emirati officials bilaterally on the latest regional and global developments, including Russia’s wars against Ukraine, Libya and Iran, among others.

Counselor Chollet will then travel to North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia from 11 to 13 January. The latter part of Counselor Joley’s trip was designed to underscore America’s enduring commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Western Balkans.

On January 11, Counselor Chollet will lead a separate interdepartmental delegation to Skopje, North Macedonia, where he will meet with government leaders to discuss a range of issues, including energy, the economy and the fight against corruption. Counselor Jole will continue to travel to Pristina, Kosovo, to meet with government officials, other political leaders, and civil society to discuss U.S. efforts to help advance Kosovo and Euro-Atlantic integration, including through EU-facilitated dialogue to reach a comprehensive The agreement to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia centers on mutual recognition.

On January 12, Counselor Scholet will continue to travel to Belgrade, Serbia, where he will discuss with Serbian government leaders energy security, regional economic integration and the progress of Serbia’s goal of joining the European Union. He will also discuss Serbia’s role in strengthening regional peace and security and its continued engagement in EU-facilitated dialogue to normalize relations with Kosovo.
