Islamabad [Pakistan]Jan 8 (ANI): The Pakistan Justice Instigation (PTI) on Saturday decided not to dissolve the Punjab state assembly pending the Lahore High Court (LHC) ruling on the province’s Chief Minister Parvez Elahi’s cancellation notice case. The Express Tribune reports.

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan, meeting senior PTI leaders in Lahore on Saturday, announced that the Punjab chief minister’s vote of confidence was contingent on the court’s Jan. 11 decision and advised them to be ready in case the court asked them to Do so and accept it.

Khan told PTI leaders that if they had to take a vote of confidence at any time, they would not face any problems. According to The Tribune, PTI chairman Imran Khan briefed the governors on Punjab’s future strategy and current political situation, including the vote of confidence, dissolution of provincial assemblies and preparations for the next general election.

According to news reports, the meeting was attended by Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan, Deputy Speaker Wasiq Abbasi, former Punjab CM Usman Buzdar, and ministers from the province including Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Raja Basharat and Mohsin Leghari.

Imran Khan said there were no two opinions on the dissolution of the Punjab assembly and a decision on the matter would be taken at a party meeting. He said they would go to the people for elections shortly after parliament was dissolved.

The cricketer-turned-politician asked ministers to stay in touch with provincial lawmakers. Party leaders have been asked to prepare for elections in their respective constituencies.

Khan stressed that only fresh elections can solve the country’s ongoing problems. Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said he would not allow “imported rulers” to evade elections, The Tribune reported.

On December 22, Punjab Governor Baligur Rehman canceled notification to Parvez Elahi of failing to hold a vote of confidence in the Punjab Assembly to prevent Imran Khan from announcing the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly. However, the Lahore High Court reinstated Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Elahi after he pledged not to break up the rally until the next hearing on January 11. (ANI)
