Etihad Airways Chief Revenue Officer Arik De commented on this major expansion:

“We have a convenient morning departure from Abu Dhabi, and our second Bangkok flight optimizes timing for those UAE residents looking to take a break in Thailand.”

“Furthermore, the return flight from Bangkok allows these Thai residents to arrive in Abu Dhabi in the morning and be the first to explore what the city has to offer for both business and leisure.”

“It further reaffirms our commitment to allow more guests to enjoy Abu Dhabi.”

The increase in the number of flights to the Thai capital marks a strong start for the airline in 2023.

Etihad Airways ends 2022 on a positive note, In November, in particular, it expanded its codeshare arrangement with Garuda Indonesia.

With this expanded deal, a staggering 42 destinations in both of their route networks are now covered by the arrangement, enabling expansion into different markets.

back in october, Etihad Airways also operated its first flight using sustainable aviation fuel between Tokyo Narita and Abu Dhabi.

Sustainable aviation fuel is a major commitment by Etihad Airways, which has pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and reduce 2019 emissions by 50% by 2035.

So they finished the year off right, they definitely started 2023 right.

Etihad Airways is off to a solid start in 2023, with the airline expected to operate 163 flights, based on a rolling seven-day average of 1-8 January.

Compared with the same period in 2022, it has increased by 21.64%, and it is also 65 times stronger than in 2021.

However, the airline does have some work to do to surpass its pre-COVID numbers of 260 in 2019 and 254 in 2020.

Here is the last four weeks of data provided by Etihad Airways on the flight tracking website:

From the data above it is clear that Etihad Airways is definitely on the right track to catch up with pre-COVID numbers.

They are an airline looking to restore as much of their flight network as possible that was lost during COVID and their own financial struggles.

All eyes will be on Etihad Airways to see how they fare in 2023 and whether we see some form of significant growth in flights, revenue and profitability.
