Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India]Jan 10 (ANI): On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu met Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, during the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas.

President Murmu said it was heartening to see him attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Congress, as she was pleased to note that even 150 years after leaving India, the Indian community in Suriname maintained its cultural identity, an official statement said.

The two leaders also discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation in trade, energy, technology and culture.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Congress, the flagship event of the Government of India, provides an important platform to engage and connect Indians diaspora and enable the diaspora to network with each other.

The theme of this year’s PBD Congress is “The Diaspora: India’s Reliable Partner for Progress in Amrit Kaal”. More than 3,500 diaspora members from nearly 70 different countries have registered for the PBD Convention. (Arnie)
