New temporary sites for feed sales vehicles have been allocated near legal livestock farms and crop farms and feed sales centers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra districts, the authorities announced.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) announced on Wednesday that it has worked with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) to allocate the sites.

The initiative aims to regulate the sale, marketing and trade of feed in the emirate, empower the private sector, end the haphazard sale of feed, eliminate the phenomenon of street hawkers, ensure the sustainability of the agricultural sector, including plants and animals, and achieve biosecurity.

ADAFSA said there are 19 licensed sites dedicated to feed trucks in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, six in the Abu Dhabi region, eight in Al Ain and five in Al Dhafra, with others coming soon in the region Emirates where different regions are established.

ADAFSA states that safe animal feed is key to protecting animal health and food safety of animal origin. Feed facilities, including mobile feed sales vehicles, are an important part of the food chain as feed is handled with a range of risks that can compromise animal health and food safety, making these facilities responsible for protecting animal health and food safety. Furthermore, feed trade in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is regulated in accordance with local and federal laws and regulations to ensure that feed is safe and wholesome, protected and free from contamination, safeguarding animal health and ensuring food is fit for human consumption.

ADAFSA also stated that the allocation of dedicated spaces for the parking and presence of feed sales vehicles is a continuation of the efforts and measures taken to regulate the feed trade in the emirate and applies to all feed facilities (feed trade vehicles and feed shops). This step serves the owners of licensed feed facilities as it plays an important role in preventing the sale of feed indiscriminately and eliminating the phenomenon of street hawking.

Authorities have also appealed to owners of licensed feed sales vehicles in Abu Dhabi to contact them to choose where they wish to sell their feed. They added that the presence of vehicles used for the sale of feed would be prohibited outside the geographic area in which they operate.

It further highlighted that inspection activities will be intensified across the emirate to control violators and impose administrative penalties on them, emphasizing that violators will be fined Dh5,000.
