The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has launched a demonstration tire made from 90% sustainable materials. This demo tire has passed all applicable regulatory tests as well as Goodyear’s in-house testing.
The demonstration tire was also tested to have lower rolling resistance compared to a reference tire made of conventional materials. Lower rolling resistance means the demonstration tire has the potential to offer better fuel savings and a reduced carbon footprint.
Additionally, after announcing the ability to demonstrate the ability to demonstrate a 70% sustainable material tire in January 2022, Goodyear, in partnership with its supply base, plans to launch a limited run of tires with up to 70% sustainable material content in 2023.

Bringing 90% sustainable material tires to market will require further collaboration with the company’s supply base to determine the scale needed to mass-produce specific tires from these innovative materials.

The shift to sustainable materials is evident in some of Goodyear’s current product lines. Today, eight product lines and some racing tires contain soybean oil. Additionally, Goodyear has more than doubled its use of RHA silica in its product line since 2018.
