On Tuesday, President Murmu chaired the farewell session of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Congress in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She was received by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubai Patel and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
The Congress is the flagship event of the Federal Government and provides an important platform to engage and connect with Indians abroad and to enable the diaspora to interact with each other.
The theme of this year’s PBD Congress is “The Diaspora: India’s Reliable Partner for Progress at Amrit Kaal”. More than 3,500 diaspora members from nearly 70 countries have registered for the PBD Convention.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a stamp dedicated to safe legal immigration during the flagship event.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also launched the “Surakshit Jayen Prashikshit Jayen” (Go to Safety, Get Trained) campaign during the Congress.
The campaign seeks to raise public awareness of the importance of using safe and legal channels for employment overseas so that well-informed immigrants can integrate and have a seamless, safe and productive stay abroad. (Arnie)
