The protests have been accompanied by a deteriorating security situation in the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, and the growing presence of the banned TTP in Pakistan.
The security situation in Pakistan has deteriorated over the past few months, with terrorist groups such as the outlawed TTP and the Islamic State group carrying out attacks with little impunity.
An Islamabad think tank said 2022 would be the deadliest month for Pakistani security personnel in more than a decade, and pointed to the emergence of the TTP as the biggest threat facing the country.
In its annual report, the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said at least 282 people have been killed by Pakistani security forces during 2022 in attacks including improvised explosive device ambushes, suicide attacks and attacks on security posts, mainly in Pakistan-Afghan border area.
