Abu Dhabi-based German Gulf Engineering Consultants – as part of its “Energy Voices 2023” campaign – has signed partnership agreements with public institutions such as UAE University and Zayed University.

“The government is promoting the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model and is expecting positive steps from the private sector. Furthermore, this year is a big one for the UAE as host of COP28. Combating the global climate crisis requires collective action. Therefore, we are Take some steps to support the government,” said Sunilan MB, managing director of German Gulf Engineering Consultants.

The company will provide approximately 1,000 refillable water bottles to emphasize the importance of sustainability for a carbon-neutral future. There will be a 10-day training program focusing on effective energy management and auditing, as well as building energy efficiency tools. In addition, paid internship opportunities will also be offered to UAE nationals.

Dr Saud Muhammed AlMarzooqi, Acting Associate Professor for Student Affairs at UAE University, applauded the event.

“Winning the bid to host the global climate summit COP28 adds another positive angle to the strategic objectives of the internship and energy training program for UAE nationals. The program is well suited for Emirati youth to engage with climate change, energy conservation measures and focus on renewable energy,” Dr. AlMarzooqi Say.

Sunilan noted that 50 Emirati students from five universities will be provided with paid internships as well as energy conservation training.

“After the course is completed, students are awarded certificates of achievement at a grand awards ceremony.”

Sunilan stressed that all participants of the campaign will commit to using refillable water bottles and avoiding single-use plastics.

“Our plan will also include promoting a 10-point energy saving action covering topics such as saving energy at home, walking, biking or using public transportation, eating more vegetables, controlling the urge to travel, stopping food waste, reducing, re Utilize, repair and recycle, switch from conventional to renewable energy sources, support environmentally friendly products, use electricity and promote planet friendliness,” he said, adding that these steps would also contribute to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 – ‘good health and wellbeing’ – and in its own way, contributing to the UAE’s 2050 net-zero emissions target.

Additionally, the company is planning a large-scale mangrove sapling planting program that will involve students, communities, institutions and government entities. Other events promoting energy efficiency include webinars, essay and short film competitions, a “Greenathon” bike marathon and more.

“This event and other initiatives fit within the context of COP28, which will be hosted by the UAE at Dubai Expo City.”
