Yoon says he expects ‘significant achievements’ from UAE trip

ABU DHABI – President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Saturday he wanted to see “significant achievements” from his state visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he will lead a business delegation representing some 100 companies.

Yoon made the remarks when meeting senior UAE officials immediately after arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport, according to Kim Eun-hye, Senior Secretary for Presidential Press Affairs.

Yoon Eun-hye is the first South Korean leader to pay a state visit to the UAE since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1980.

“President Yoon expressed his heartfelt thanks to the three gentlemen, who are symbols of South Korea-UAE relations, for their warm welcome,” Kim Jong-un told reporters. Mohammed Al Mazroui and Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of Abu Dhabi Administrative Affairs Authority.

“He also said that he was accompanied by a number of ministers and officials from more than 100 businesses and that he looked forward to seeing a significant outcome of the visit,” she said.

The two countries are expected to sign about 30 memorandums of understanding in the fields of energy, arms and investment.

When meeting with Yin, Foreign Minister Abdullah said that he was honored to meet the President and First Lady Kim Kun-hee who accompanied him on the trip, and looked forward to meeting them for a long time. .

The minister also said that it is particularly important that Youun is the first leader to pay a state visit to the UAE since President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took office in May.

Yin plans to hold a summit with the UAE president to discuss ways to enhance the special strategic partnership between the two countries.

As a special courtesy, four fighter jets of the UAE Air Force escorted the presidential plane carrying Yoon Eun-hye into the UAE’s air defense identification zone, Kim said. (Yonhap News Agency)
