KABUL, Jan. 15 (AP) — A former Afghan congresswoman and her bodyguard were shot dead by unidentified assailants at their home in the capital Kabul, police said Sunday.
Mursal Nabizada is one of the few congresswomen remaining in Kabul after the Taliban seize power in August 2021.

It was the first time a lawmaker from the previous government had been killed in the city since the takeover.
Local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid said Nabizada and her guards were shot dead in the same room around 3 a.m. Saturday.
He said her brother and a second security guard were injured. A third security guard fled the scene with money and jewelry.
She died on the ground floor of her home, which was her office. Khalid said the investigation is ongoing. He did not answer questions about possible motives.
Nabizada was elected in 2019 to represent Kabul and stayed in office until the Taliban takeover.
She is a member of the Parliamentary Defense Committee and works for a private NGO Human Resource Development and Research Institute. (Associated Press)
