The “M3GAN” sequel is officially in production.
“M3GAN 2.0,” the sequel to the hit horror film about an AI doll who develops a chilling sense of self, is set to hit theaters on Jan. 17, 2025.
According to Variety, screenwriter Acra Cooper will return to pen the script, and stars Allison Williams (Gemma) and Violet McGraw (Cardy) will return to their respective roles.
It’s unclear if director Gerald Johnstone will return to the helm, or if M3GAN cast members Amy Donald or Jenna Davis will reprise the role.
Jason Blum recently admitted that “M3GAN” convinced him to break his “ground rules” in the sequel.
The Blumhouse boss who produced the blockbuster has reflected on his decision to consider a follow-up “much earlier” than usual.
He told the publication: “As soon as I saw the film for the first time, we had a hunch that the sequel might actually be a success. So, we broke our ground rules and we started talking about the sequel before the movie came out. .”
“I’m so optimistic that we’re starting to shoot the sequel earlier than usual.”
Blum points to studio Atomic Monster for promoting the style and admits that “every detail counts.”
He added: “The title treatment is from Atomic Monster. It came to us with this title, where the 3 is for the ‘e’. That’s important.
“It’s very tricky when you get something that’s culturally relevant. It rarely happens. Every detail counts. You never know what that actually is, but the title certainly plays a role.”
