World News | U.S. warns China of red lines in Ukraine war ahead of Blinken’s visit

[ad_1]

washington [US]Jan 20 (ANI): Two weeks before US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Beijing next month, the US reportedly drew red lines and warned China not to provide material and security assistance to Russia in the Ukraine conflict.

“I have no new assessment to offer,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told VOA last week when asked whether Washington still believed Beijing had not provided security assistance to Russia.

“If we see China act to systematically assist Russia in evading sanctions, of course there will be a price,” Price said.

The comments come as the United States is closely monitoring any response from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to Russia’s request for security assistance amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, ABC’s Voice of America reported. Washington has taken note of reports of repeated visits by Russian transport planes to China, the report said.

Earlier this week, US-based Politico reported that US Secretary of State Blinken will visit China on February 5-6. According to the report, Blinken’s agenda is expected to include Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China’s nuclear arsenal and the detention of American citizens in China.

Citing a Washington-based diplomat familiar with Blinken’s travel plans, the newspaper said the U.S. secretary of state will meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang in Beijing on Feb. 5-6.

Blinken’s visit to Beijing follows U.S. leader Joe Biden’s November 2022 meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Indonesia, where Biden vowed to “keep lines of communication open” with China.

The trip will also test whether the meeting between the two heads of state paves the way for a more productive U.S.-China relationship amid tensions.

Neither the State Department nor the Chinese government released details of Blinken’s upcoming trip to Beijing, according to Politico. (Arnie)
