Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street Improvement Project, which extends 3 kilometers from the Dubai-Al Ain Road intersection to the Academic City roundabout.
RTA also opened two 120-meter-long bridges at the intersection of Dubai Silicon Oasis, including four lanes in each direction. These improvements will increase capacity to 14,400 vehicles per hour in both directions and ensure smooth flow of traffic in both directions on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
The project is part of the RTA’s master plan to improve roads, bridges, intersections and tunnels to accommodate growing traffic and simplify mobility across the emirate.
Serving Dubai Silicon Oasis, more than 25 universities and colleges
In addition to surrounding developments, the project serves Dubai Silicon Oasis, more than 25 universities and colleges, and 27,500 students. In the future, RTA plans to improve Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from Academic City to the intersection of Al Awir Street.
The project works include improving the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, connecting the intersection of Dubai-Al Ain Road, widening the street to four lanes in each direction, extending 3 kilometers, and building two A 120-meter bridge at the Dubai Silicon Oasis intersection with four lanes in each direction.
Works also include the construction of a signalized intersection under the two bridges, providing 20 lanes in each direction and a capacity of 8,000 vehicles per hour to ensure unimpeded traffic to Dubai Silicon Oasis and Zayed University. It also includes improvements to traffic around the Academic City Circle and highway street lighting services.
Keep pace
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Director-General of the Executive Board of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said: “The Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street Improvement Project was undertaken on the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Al Tayer, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Rashid Al Maktoum is expediting the completion of road and transport projects to keep up with the ongoing development in Dubai.”
“This is also in line with RTA’s strategic plan to develop the infrastructure of Dubai’s road and public transport network, and to develop an integrated solution for road and marine networks that is safe for users, able to match development plans and population growth, and encourage development and investment in the emirate .
“The improvement of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to the east towards Al Awir complements the RTA’s efforts that began with the widening of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to 4 lanes in each direction, 25 kilometers from Dubai Intersection – Al Ain Road to the existing roundabout on Al Yalayes Street.”
“The works involve the construction of several intersections with roads in the area, including an overpass at the intersection of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Latifa Bint Hamdan Road, near the entrance of the Global Village, for inbound traffic from Emirates Road , signaled as Round-About at the intersection with Al Qudra Road, and at the signaled surface intersection with Hessa Road. The traffic solution employed is temporary and will be upgraded in the future with a series of final traffic solutions,” Al Tayer concluded. — trade arab news agency
