Victim borrowed money from his friend who called him to her house and didn’t let him leave until he handed over the money
Dubai Public Prosecution has handed over two African women and two men of the same nationality to the Criminal Court for detaining a person in an apartment in the emirate.
Last August, an African who reported that his friend had been detained in an apartment received a call from the friend asking him to deliver Dh800 at another location.
He added that he went to the place and met a criminal who demanded the money in exchange for his friend. During a meeting with the defendant, the man claimed he had no money and rushed to the apartment where the victim was being held. He then notified the police.
A team of investigators then arrived at the location, where they located the complainant who informed them of the apartment’s location. The police then located the victim and arrested the offender.
The victim said that one of the two accused women (his friend) asked him to come to her residence. Then she started asking him for the money he borrowed. However, he told her he had no money when her friends caught him and they called the complainant to bring the money. The complainant was told that he would have to hand over the money in order to free his friend.
During the investigation, the prisoner stated that the victim had borrowed money from her, but she did not respond when she asked to pay it back. So she called him over and detained him with the help of her friends.
The courts condemned them and sentenced those convicted to six months in prison. They will be deported after serving their sentences.
