Memphis death indictment: District Attorney Steve Mulroy of Shelby County, Tennessee announced the indictment in the death of Tire Nicholas, a Black man , who died three days after being beaten by five black Memphis police officers after being pulled over for a traffic violation. Five Memphis police officers, indicted on second-degree murder and other charges, have been fired for what happened. A police video said to show the beatings took place will be released tonight.

FBI Hunts Ransomware Hackers: Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the FBI has begun hunting down the Hive ransomware group, which targeted more than 1,500 victims in more than 80 countries, including hospitals, school districts and financial company. The FBI hacked into Hive’s computer network, saving victims from paying a $130 million ransom. Working with Germany and the Netherlands, the FBI took control of servers and websites that Hive uses to communicate with its members, disrupting Hive’s ability to attack and blackmail victims. “Cybercrime is an evolving threat. Together with our international partners, we will continue to disrupt the criminal networks that deploy these attacks,” Garland said.

Conviction for Bike Lane Killing: Islamic extremist Sayfullo Saipov was convicted by a federal jury in Manhattan of killing eight people on a New York City bike path in 2017. He attacked the victim with a truck that had driven onto Lance Road. Sentencing deliberations are scheduled for next month and could lead to the death penalty.

News sites banned in Russia: Russia has banned independent news sites that publish stories about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The press operation is called Meduza. Russians say it poses a threat to constitutional order and national security. Russia has shut down several news organizations that reported the truth rather than the Kremlin version of the news.

Feinstein has not announced whether she will be re-elected. She will be 91 when the next election for the seat begins. Congresswoman Katie Porter also announced her candidacy for the Senate seat.

The Times reports on the secret Trump investigation: The New York Times reported that after Donald Trump’s Attorney General William Barr appointed John Durham as special counsel, Italian government officials revealed to them that President Trump was involved in financial crimes. The Times said Durham launched a confidential investigation into Trump. Durham has not filed charges, and the Justice Department has not issued any statement on the matter so far.
