With the Buffalo Sabers hiring a new chief operating officer to lead the business side of the organization, a team leader who served in a similar role is now gone.
The Buffalo News has learned that Mike McFarlane is stepping down from the senior leadership team at Pegula Sports & Entertainment, which managed the Sabers, less than three years after he was named senior vice president. The Sabers were not immediately available for comment.
Kim Pegula also did not serve as team president after being seriously ill for several months and was admitted to the hospital in June with an “unexpected health issue.” A Sabers spokesman said Roth’s hiring “has nothing to do with” Kim Pegula’s health or her absence from PSE business.
McFarlane brings more than two decades of financial and corporate management experience to Pegula Sports & Entertainment and is responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the Sabers as well as the financial operations of the PSE entities.
Prior to joining Pegula Sports & Entertainment, McFarlane served as CFO and member of the management team at Petri Baking Products, a supplier of soft-baked biscuits, where he oversaw the financing of three major facility expansions for the Silver Creek-based company.
