As part of the pledge, Afghanistan will travel to the UAE in February to purchase three T20Is

The UAE will host Afghanistan’s three T20Is in Abu Dhabi on February 16 as part of an agreement signed by the two cricket boards last November, in which the UAE Cricket Board (ECB) will host the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Provide logistical and infrastructure support for the next five years, including host their “home” games the period. As a result, Afghanistan are committed to playing the UAE in three T20I series a year until the deal expires.

“We are honored to be [a] ACB Chief Executive Naseeb Khan said: “We are part of this partnership and are pleased with the outcome of our recent talks and negotiations with the Emirates Cricket Board. Participating in this T20I series is the first step in our long-term commitment, We look forward to continuing our partnership with the ECB.”

For the first time since March 2018, the teams will meet across formats. However, the series is not part of the ICC FTP during the 2023-27 cycle and they will be played in 21 Tests, 45 ODIs and 57 T20I matches.It will also be Afghanistan’s first mission of the year, with another three-match T20I series against pakistan March. The series will likely be played at a neutral venue, with the Afghan and Pakistani boards splitting revenues equally.

For the UAE series, Afghanistan has selected a preliminary roster of 22 players for the UAE’s reserve camp. Rashid Khan will lead the visitors, who travel to the UAE next week for a pre-series training camp in Abu Dhabi. The squad will then be whittled down to 17 members.

But Afghanistan are yet to name their coaching staff after head coach Jonathan Trotter and bowling coach Omar Gul failed to renew their contracts last month. Assistant coach Raees Ahmadzai has been leading the behind-the-scenes staff alongside local coaches.

Given the political situation in Afghanistan, it remains off-limits to international teams. With the Taliban taking over in August 2021, the situation escalated and several ACB staff fled the country. Since then, even visas for Afghan players to play abroad have become difficult.

ACB then arranged UAE residency visas for around two dozen players and staff, making the UAE their second home. In fact, Australia even canceled A three-match ODI series against Afghanistan is scheduled for March after the Taliban banned girls from college education.
