Starzplay and Image Nation Abu Dhabi Unveil Arabian Original ‘Kaboos’ – Deadline

Starzplay Announcing the first Arabic-language original series created in partnership with the UAE content giant image country abu dhabi.

Starz’s international streaming service has a strong following in the Middle East and North Africa, and its regional service, Starzplay Arabia, is available in 19 territories.

new show called cabbage, with five separate episodes, was billed as a modern retelling of Arabic folklore.it explores urban legends Saudi ArabiaKuwait, Egypt and UAE, covering genres from classic horror stories to noir psychological thrillers.

Some of the hottest young directors in the MENA region are involved in the programme, including the UAE’s Majid Ansari (Zinzana, paranormal phenomenon) and Hana Kazim (Markle) and those born in Iraq and residing in Abu Dhabi Yasir Yasiri (122), Ahmed Khalid of Egypt (March 30) and Bahraini, American director and producer Hala Matar (tram).

The horror anthology series is produced by Abu Dhabi-based Starship Entertainment, the production company of Al Yasiri and Mansoor Al Feeli.

Al Yasiri just recently completed an ambitious adaptation of a Saudi Arabian supernatural novel Huawen Jianyeproduced by Image Nation and regional giants MBC Studios and Vox Cinemas.

cabbage Also featuring many popular MENA talents including Passant Shawky, Khaled Anward, Abrar Al Hamad, Rakeen Saad, Kady Al Qaisy and Ahmad Al Saeed.

“Qaboos is our largest content property of the year, our first original Arabic production, and we are very excited to launch it across the Middle East,” said Nadim Dada, Vice President of Programming and Content Acquisition at Starzplay.

“Our goal at Starzplay is to invest in regionally relevant content, and as a homegrown platform, we are constantly striving to bring in content that is relevant to our MENA audience.”

The series will begin streaming on Starzplay on February 9, when the first two episodes will be released, followed by the remaining episodes weekly thereafter.

Review Production, Chief Content Officer, Image Nation ben ross said the project dovetailed with one of the group’s founding goals.

“Image Nation Abu Dhabi is constantly on the lookout for challenging new projects that will enable regional filmmakers to share the region’s contemporary heritage and culture with the world through Arabic content, and there is no better way to do so than through Arabic myths and legends for storytelling,” he said.
